Snapshot is an app that is available to Progressive Insurance customers who signed up to the mobile version of the company’s insurance offerings. It works by tracking the user’s driving, highlighting bad habits such as rapid acceleration, hard braking and excessive mileage, in order to provide them with a driver score. This score is then used to personalize rates, providing discounts for those who consistently drive well and reducing car insurance bills in the process. The app stays active at all times and although this drains battery life faster, it means the user does not need to do anything other than take their phone with them on their journeys. Users can also categorize their own journeys, ensuring they are not penalized if they are a passenger.
