A free multimedia downloader
VidMate is a free video downloader app that also serves as a media converter and player. Three multimedia platforms in one Android app, VidMate is an essential tool for collecting and watching videos in HD format. VidMate can be found on the Google Play Store for Android build 4.2.1 or higher, as well as Windows 7 and iOS 12.1.2.
Similar to SnapTube or Videoder, VidMate works with hundreds of streaming websites, providing access to enormous libraries of content – all for free. Since it’s a three-in-one platform, it also means you can save space on your mobile device. VidMate allows users to download YouTube videos and music, play them, or convert them to a different file extension to be later played on your computer.
Download, convert, play, and share
The best thing that can be said about VidMate is that it serves as a seamless extension to managing media on your phone. It enables quick and free content downloading from all sorts of video streaming sites, including YouTube, Vevo, and DailyMotion. VidMate also allows for video sharing to social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Soundcloud.
VidMate accomplishes this feeling of seamless integration with a smart, uncluttered UI that’s intuitive and straightforward in its presentation. It displays a list of supported websites to choose from, then downloading content just takes a single click. In just three easy steps you will have your downloaded content: click the site, find the video, download it. Once downloaded, VidMate can then convert your video into MP3 or MP4, whichever is your preference.
It’s a huge convenience to be able to convert to MP3 or MP4 right within the app, as it eliminates the need for the clunky transfer of files from app to app. It also saves space on your Android; you don’t have to have two or three apps just for video management. VidMate also downloads and converts quickly, so you’ll be able to spend more time watching and sharing, and less time moving files or waiting through load bars.
VidMate can also download multiple videos at once, and you can pause or cancel downloads when they’re in progress. This flexible and straightforward approach again capitalizes on how integrated VidMate feels. Newcomers to Android might even mistake the app as being intrinsically part of the ecosystem. VidMate also works on your computer, if that’s your preferred interface for video management.
VidMate thrives on Android since its UI was designed with simplicity in mind. Since most Android users favor Windows, using the app on PC is a great alternative. VidMate has over 200 channels and unlimited movies, all of which benefit from your desktop’s larger screen. It works best if you install it via an emulator like Bluestacks or Nox APP since both are compatible with Android.
Regardless of where you use VidMate, the video’s quality can be determined during the selection process; it starts at 480p and goes all the way up to 4k. Be aware, however, that stored HD videos will take up more space on your Android device. Not to worry, though, since you can transfer stored files from your phone to your computer. The VidMate app brings your media to its fullest potential – download your preferred content, then move it to where it can benefit from a bigger screen and more storage space.
One of the lesser-known features of VidMate is that it’s also a streaming app. You can use it to watch your favorite TV channels at any time, and it’s built right into the program. On the Home screen, there’s a ‘TV Show’ category which you can tap to open a list of popular TV shows. Just click the one you want to watch.
If you don’t see your preferred show, it could still be there; just buried under others. Use the filter icon on the right corner and you can search by language, channel, year, or genre. From this point, VidMate downloads as per usual, and similarly, any show can be downloaded and formatted per your preference, and the resolution can be tweaked as well.
Is it free? Is it safe?
VidMate doesn’t gather any personal information and, despite its uses, it is legal and safe to use. This also means with videos on YouTube, which are by nature not copyright files. VidMate is free, but it does have ads you’ll have to sit through. Also, it does not employ any bitcoin miners in users’ computers, nor does it install any kind of malware upon being downloaded. The app does take up a considerable amount of space, however, so HD videos you keep should be moved sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, VidMate also doesn’t have any kind of video editing software.
VidMate vs SnapTube
With a user base of over 500 million people, VidMate remains a hugely popular choice for video management on Android. That said, there are other options that perform similarly. SnapTube is one of the best, as it has some key features missing in VidMate. SnapTube has its own music player, for instance, and you can even use the app to make playlists. Like VidMate, SnapTube also sports a friendly user interface and a fast-loading player. It also provides a more extensive list of entertainment platforms from which you can download movies, music, and videos.
Videoder is another alternative, though it doesn’t cover as many streaming sites as VidMate. Still, Videoder is easy to use, and you can choose to toggle on a ‘fast download’ mode when time is short but battery power isn’t.
Access and manage HD videos
Despite the ads and its lack of editing capability, VidMate is still the best choice for downloading videos on Android. The one-two-three punch of downloader, converter, and player is enough to make the product stand out, but being able to then select the video quality and switch the format is the icing on the cake. Compatibility with YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and a variety of other social media monoliths is also a huge plus.
