An easy-to-use torrent client

qBittorrent is one of the leading open-source torrent clients for downloading and uploading files. This torrent software was originally developed by Christopher Dumez. With several cross-platform functionalities, this program is effectively a BitTorrent client designed in C++ programming language. The project is maintained via donations and a solid community, which constantly releases updates. If you’ve been looking for a torrent download client, qBittorrent will be an excellent choice.

An open-source P2P torrent software

qBittorrent is a lightweight program, which comes with a simple and clean interface. The program’s main window looks quite similar to uTorrent, another leading torrent software for movie downloads. qBittorrent features a comprehensive search engine designed in Python. You can easily enable this search engine with additional plug-ins. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be unstable and unreliable.

Regardless, with this functionality, you can simultaneously search a wide range of websites for torrent. With the latest version of the program, you get high-end encryption, as well as support for scheduled speed limits, magnet links, RSS feeds, automatic downloads, protection from trackers, multiple languages, and more. qBittorrent is the perfect alternative to expensive torrent software.

How does qBittorrent work?

BT or BitTorrent is a commonly used communication protocol for P2P or peer-to-peer file sharing. It’s often used for sharing electronic files or data over the internet. Most of the time, users opt for this program when they want to transfer large-sized files, such as songs, video clips, movies, and other forms of content.

You can use BitTorrent to reduce the network and server impact of sharing large-sized files. It allows multiple users or peers to become a group, actomg as a bunch of host servers for a single file. Due to this, the load on the server and network are minimized. This works quite effectively over digital networks supporting lower bandwidth options.

Due to the popularity and ease-of-use, BitTorrent has led to the creation of several platforms. UltraTorrent and Deluge are two common choices. However, most of these platforms aren’t free and even lack advanced features or display too many advertisements.

Fortunately, you can download qBittorrent for free and not worry about advertisements. Moreover, the program comes with a wide range of features to ensure easy installation, basic configuration options, integrated libraries, and several other tools, such as Qt toolkit, Boost, etc.

Does qBittorrent have a simple interface?

As mentioned earlier, qBittorrent comes with a simple and clean interface. It’s easy to navigate, and the features don’t seem overwhelming. The intuitive layout lets you download songs, movies, and other content without much trouble. With qBittorrent, you can simultaneously download multiple files. However, with this function, it’s important to consider the bandwidth of the internet connection. With too many files in the list, the download time may lengthen considerably.

All the files are displayed in a list, focusing on the size, name, number of peers and seeds, download status, and download speed. With the right-click menu, you can add several other columns to capture more information. With a single click, you can resume or pause downloads. Additionally, you can also limit the upload and download speed.

From the main window, you can check all the torrents, including new and old ones, whether in progress or not. While the program comes with a default destination folder, you can change the location to suit your specific requirements. You can also change the maximum number of connections per torrent. Last but not least, you can even check qBittorrent Portable, which you can carry around in a USB drive.

Does qBittorrent support sequential torrenting?

For downloads, qBittorrent lets you activate sequential torrenting. As such, you can work on other tasks while the program downloads batches of files. Additionally, the software lets you control peers, trackers, and other parameters by prioritizing specific files or rearranging the queue.

In case you’re worried about the bandwidth limit, qBittorrent lets you set a schedule. You’re therefore able to download a file whenever it’s freely available. You can even visit the advanced settings, and choose to bind the program to a specific network interface. This allows you to stop downloads safely in case the VPN connection drops.

Interestingly, qBittorrent comes with another excellent feature, that is, to create torrent files. The process is straightforward and doesn’t require you to possess any technical skills or knowledge. You only need to choose the folder or file from the hard disk and complete accurate information in a few fields, such as web seed URLs, tracker URLs, and so on. You can immediately upload the file or set as ‘Private’, which prevents the file from being distributed over a DHT network.

qBittorrent is available on a wide range of platforms and in over 70 languages. However, the program suffers from occasional lags and freezes. Luckily, this problem is limited, and you encounter such issues only with multiple torrents in the queue. Overall, qBittorrent is an excellent app, which supports faster downloads. Since the program is easy to use and allows simple navigation, even inexperienced users can quickly figure out the platform’s features.

An excellent choice among torrent clients

The BitTorrent protocol was introduced more than a decade ago. Even after so many years, it’s still one of the leading peer-to-peer file sharing technologies. With qBittorrent, you can download, upload, and even create torrents. Compared to other similar programs, this one is easier to use and navigate.

Plus,  the program is free, comes with several advanced features, and doesn’t affect system resources. While you’ll need third-party plug-ins to use the search engine for downloads and uploads, the program is worth the download.
