Platforming physics game
Jump King is a platforming video game developed by Nexile. This game will have you control a king who can only move by jumping. Your goal is to reach the top of an extremely tall tower to complete the mission.
Like Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, Jump King provides a seemingly simple challenge. There isn’t any story to speak of beyond a few talking NPCs. All that needs to be focused on is your jumping. However, like the physics game, the game has a high difficulty level. You need to have a good strategy to actually reach the top.
Jump King is a hyper-punishing platformer game with simple gameplay. Here, your goal is to make your way to the top. To do so, you have to jump. Your jump strength changes based on how long you hold the only button in the game. However, you can only jump left, right, or directly above. You also cannot walk around, cling to ledges, and climb walls. You can only jump.
The point of the game is to test your patience and endurance. As mentioned, the game can be difficult as one wrong job can send you falling back one or two screens. One incredibly unlucky jump can send you careening through dozens of screens and straight into the beginning of the game. However, you can memorize which jumps are needed at which moments to make your life easier.
Players will be disappointed to know that there is no on-screen indicator of how much your jump has charged. There is also no way to back out of a jump you might have accidentally started charging or overcharging. Some will also find the lack of background music disappointing. The only audios you will hear are the sound of the world and the repetitive clunking of your boots as you jump.
Is the game good?
Overall, Jump King is an excellent yet extremely difficult platformer. It is a type of game that can be frustrating for some people due to its challenging gameplay. Added to that is the somewhat imprecise nature of jumping. Some players will find the lack of background music a bit disappointing, but this is because the developers do not want you distracted from playing the game.
