Premium DLC for a strategy game
HUMANKIND – Cultures of Latin America Pack is a paid downloadable content (DLC) that lets you experience all-new cultures inspired by the Latin American civilizations. In this expansion for the strategy game HUMANKIND, explore the evolution of Latin culture from the prehistoric Caralans to the modern Cubans. As a thematically coherent DLC, it is a refreshing addition to the turn-based strategy game where you re-write the history of a chosen civilization.
Representation gets a boost in HUMANKIND – Cultures of Latin America Pack. However, players cite imbalances against the Latinos, unlike other historical sims like Civilization VI or Age of Empires IV.
Enjoy a host of South American content
In HUMANKIND – Cultures of Latin America, you get to experience the progression of Latin American civilizations by focusing on six cultures across six different eras. You start with the Caralans, then the Nazca, followed by the Taino, the Inca, the Argentinians, and the Cubans. Take note that historically speaking, these civilizations do not tackle a single lineage but try to cover the Mesoamerican culture as a whole.
As mentioned, it features a host of new content such as the Bolivian salt flats of Salar de Uyuni or the Aztec Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan. There are also nine independent peoples introduced and over 15 narrative events to enjoy. More importantly, it has a banger soundtrack containing over 30 songs. The tracks capture the different time periods perfectly and help cement the unique identity of this DLC.
However, while the representation is welcome, it doesn’t translate well into the strategy-focused gameplay of HUMANKIND. The abilities given to the cultures mostly leave them flat and unsuitable for battle, which feels out of place especially since other historical sims give adequate attention to the Mesoamericans as formidable warriors. Additionally, a bug causes your units at sea to disappear randomly, even with the proper technologies researched.

It may have shortcomings in terms of balancing and unresolved bugs, still HUMANKIND – Cultures of Latin America Pack is still a must-have for HUMANKIND players. Compared to the Cultures of Africa DLC, this one has a more vibrant personality that tries to cover all of Latin America but with poorer interaction and balancing mechanics. If you’re looking for the next HUMANKIND session, check out this expansion.
