Free genetics-themed guessing game
Guess Genes 3D is a free puzzle game from Harmonia Games. In this casual role-playing experience, you are tasked with guessing what the outcome will be given a set of parameters. More specifically, you guess what trait the offspring will have based on the traits of the parents. Although it’s inspired by genetics, the gameplay is a lot simpler.
With bright and colorful visuals, Guess Genes 3D could have been a good way to introduce genetics to younger players. Unfortunately, it contains adult images and themes, unlike Whos Your Daddy or Mommy and Little Baby Day.
A simple interpolation game
At the core of Guess Genes 3D is the concept of genetics, or how traits are passed down from parent to offspring. For example, it shows that if one of your parents is short and the other is tall, your height is between them. Similarly, being born from parents with black and brown eyes makes it unlikely for the child to have blue eyes. This is a straightforward game.
The same concept is applied in the game, letting you guess what the offspring trait will be. Visually, it features bright and solid colors that are easy to distinguish and appreciate. The same applies to the buttons since the game doesn’t require you to do anything else but choose the correct answer. To keep the experience dynamic and enjoyable, every round features some kind of animation.
While the science is simplified, accompanied by simple and intuitive graphics and controls, note that the game is not for kids. It features mature imagery as well as character movements that can be considered suggestive. Still, the worst part of the game is its incessant ads. Imagine every round and attempt punctuated with full-screen ads. Some of them are unskippable, and most of them feature those annoyingly small exit buttons.
Start guessing
Overall, Guess Genes 3D could’ve been a good casual game if it weren’t for too many ads that appear almost every round, which interrupts the gameplay experience. Its good use of simple visuals and controls makes it both educational and enjoyable, although the challenge in this game passes quickly. Additionally, the themes and designs make the game unsuitable for kids.
