App for mastering grammar
Ideal for beginners, English Grammar in Use is an education and reference app containing basic lessons and exercises on grammar. It boasts a glossary where you can read brief descriptions and example sentences on a particular unit such as adjectives and active and passive verbs.
Moreover, the topics in the “Appendices” include spelling, regular and irregular verbs, and many more. Most of the topics in English Grammar in Use are paywalled, though you can no longer purchase them since it only results in an error pop-up. If you’re looking for alternatives, consider English Grammar Book or LearnEnglish Grammar.
Improve your language skills
English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. If you’re traveling to English-speaking countries or want to study abroad, you should download English Grammar in Use. It offers various topics on English grammar, from past and present tenses to prepositions and relative clauses. When you select a unit, the app will enter split-screen mode, showing the “Explanation” and “Exercises” tabs on the left and right screens, respectively.
The “Explanation” tab provides an in-depth discussion of a particular topic. Words and example sentences include a speaker icon beside them, which helps improve your listening and language comprehension skills. The “Exercise” tab — on the other hand — allows for the facilitation of learning through the use of aesthetically pleasing visuals and varied test types — including multiple choice and fill-in-the-blanks. It contains several levels that you can choose from, too.
The bookmark feature is useful if you need easy access to units you’re struggling with. To bookmark a lesson, tap the banner icon beside the three-bar menu in the upper right corner of the screen. Unfortunately, you can’t access most of the paywalled units as they are unavailable for purchase so you have no choice but to settle with the units under the “Past and Present” tab.
Find alternative grammar apps
English Grammar in Use would have been a great language-learning app if it weren’t for the unpurchaseable units. On the bright side, its features — especially its “Exercises” tab and “Appendices” — help you master the basics of English grammar. Further, the example sentences in “Explanation” contain audio — which is a plus. Still, it’s best to download other grammar apps for your learning needs.
