Downloadable mod for Battle for Middle Earth
The 4th Age Mod is a software extension package intended to be used with the original Battle for Middle Earth game. Offering support for single and multiple players, this modification has been designed to improve existing in-game elements. It offers enhanced NPC skins, as well as improved PvE options.
One of the main purposes of the 4th Age Mod is to increase customization options found within The Battle for Middle Earth. However, this extension cannot be used unless the original game has already been installed.
Old but gold
Originally released in 2008, the 4th Age Mod provides users with a host of personalization possibilities. Many of these revolve around the creation of new factions and units. Note that four playable characters are offered (Rhûn, Rohan, Gondor, and Harad).
Character skin improvements
Another area of focus associated with this mod involves how the characters within factions are graphically depicted. While their skins are mostly the same when compared to the original game, they are now displayed in HD quality. This should add a sense of realism to skirmishes and conflicts.
Recent updates
One issue with the original mod (released in 2008) is that the developer was forced to take a hiatus for a long period of time. Players will be happy to learn that recent improvements like PvE options, thanks to AI, are finally complete. Note that it will not work with patches newer than version 1.06.
An ongoing project
Anyone who is already familiar with the LOTR sequel, The Battle for Middle Earth II, should be impressed with the amount of dedication that has gone into this mod. The developer also claims that future updates and software patches will occur as necessary.
