Side-scrolling precision platformer game

Break the Targets is a premium strategy game made by developer Q’Prod for PC. It is a side-scrolling platforming title with an emphasis on precision and quick reflexes. In it, players are to break designated targets as many as they can within a limited amount of time.

Similar to Celeste, Break the Targets’ core gameplay revolves around precise platforming. Players will need to quickly analyze and plan their approach as they break targets along the way in one smooth and fluid go. It also offers various cosmetic character customization options for added flair and personality.

Break as you go

Precision platformers are an interesting sub-genre of games that primarily focus on the platforming and fluid movement for its gameplay. It’s a deceptively simple premise that most will actually find quite challenging. Break the Targets operates on the same concept, but as its name suggests, it has more in store for you than you think. As if things weren’t hard enough, it adds targets to your list of objectives.

In this game, each of the hundreds of platforming levels feature designated targets that you need to break during your run. They come in the form of floating orbs that you have to hit as you pass them. Use your rope to swing off surfaces, and put up your shield to block incoming projectiles. All of that, while trying to accomplish challenges with a 30-second time limit.

The game features two playable characters with unique abilities and playstyles. What’s more, you can experiment with the built-in level editor to create your own challenges and add them to the growing list of community-made levels. However, despite the sheer amount of content available to you, the gameplay can feel repetitive and dull after a while. Some additional game modes would have been nice.

Speed and precision

Overall, Break the Targets is a solid platformer with a dash of speed-running gameplay elements. The complexity of levels and their time limit really do provide a good challenge and force you to play fluidly and precisely. There are plenty of levels to take on and hopefully, more content gets added in the future to keep things fresh and interesting.
