Test your Wikipedia knowledge
WikiArena is an indie game developed by Fabian Fischer. As the name suggests, this free game involves the popular internet-based search engine Wikipedia. Here, your task is to guess which of the two presented Wikipedia articles is longer or gets more views.
WikiArena offers three game modes: Arena, Endless, and Daily Arena. And as Wikipedia comes with a seemingly infinite number of articles, you have infinite content to play with. You will never play the same run twice. Moreover, the game allows you to share your results via Twitter. However, despite its massive content, the gameplay is repetitive.
How do you play this game?
WikiArena explores the trivia roguelike genre of the games Wordle and Babble Royale. It applies the same approach using the “Internet’s meta” as its core language. However, instead of guessing words, you will play with Wikipedia articles. As mentioned, in each round, the game pits two random articles against each other by title, image, and excerpt. From that, you will guess which is longer or gets more views.
There are three modes in the game. The Arena mode is the roguelike mode, where you will try to reach ten correct predictions. However, avoid being wrong three times to continue playing. Meanwhile, the Endless mode challenges you to get as many correct predictions before being wrong three times. Finally, the Daily Arena pits you against your friends by running the same arena for all players each day.
As noted, there is literally infinite content in this game. With this, you will never play the same run twice. The game app also supports both English and German, with plans to expand the languages. The app also records how many 10-win runs you had and your highest endless score. Even better, you can share your records online by generating a shareable tweet that visualizes your battle results.
Is the game good?
Overall, WikiArena takes the trivia game to a new height. Although the gameplay is simple, the entire game is challenging as it will have you guess based on limited information. It is also good to note that despite its infinite number of levels, the content does not repeat. However, the mechanics repeat in all the game modes, making the entire experience boring as you play longer.
