Visit the theme park for free in this virtual world
Virtual Towers Online is a free amusement park simulation video game that lets you digitally explore a real-life park. Developed by Immortal Media Studios, this game is a realistic “to scale” and exact replica of the Alton Towers Resort theme park. It’s constantly in development due to the massiveness of the real-world location but is available to play as a single-player first-person walking simulator.
The amusement park’s all yours
Alton Towers Resort is a theme park in Staffordshire, England, near the village of Alton. The park is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group and incorporates a theme park, water park, spa, mini-golf course, and hotel complex. It hosts some of the world’s first types of coasters and part attractions, and even a record-breaking ride—with The Smiler’s world record for most inversions on a rollercoaster. However, not everyone can leisurely visit the Alton Towers.
With Virtual Towers Online, you can do so for free. This virtual recreation uses architectural plans and numerous photo references to achieve near-realism with what the whole amusement park looks like—from the display signs to the plants inside the park. It’s also designed to be interactive, with players able to go on rides and access areas that they normally would as visitors. Some attractions can’t be accessed, however, so you have to wait for updates.
Alongside its free-roam mode, the developers plan to add a career mode—wherein you can take up park jobs like ride operators—and their end goal is to fully release the game as a multiplayer simulation where you can interact with other players. This is also in conjunction with VR compatibility, which will add more realism to the game. While it’s still in development, you can help the community find bug issues to polish the whole game.
It’s like you’re really there
All in all, Virtual Towers Online offers a hyper-realistic recreation that you can freely visit and enjoy. While some of the rides aren’t operational and make the game feel more like a rollercoaster simulator, the high-definition graphics make it perfect for any Alton Towers fan. However, to run it smoothly, you’ll need specifications for high-end PCs, such as the recommended 8GB RAM and 3GB of memory.
