Old-school arcade racer
Victory Heat Rally is a fast-paced arcade-style racing game developed for Windows PC. This game features a very retro look that will remind you of old-school racers. It offers extremely intense gameplay to give players a sense of speed that not many games of the same genre captures these days. It also comes with funky background music that complements its retro art styling.
Race down memory lane
At a glance, Victory Heat Rally will give players some 90s/early 2000s car racing game vibes. The game comes with colorful pixel art and cool polygon roads—as if it is a blend of old Gameboy color racing games, such as Pocket Rally, and polygon games like Star Fox. The background music also sounds like very much like other retro racing games like Daytona and Ridge Racer. However, it is not only the look and sound of the game that is old school. Even the physics feel like Outrun and Initial D.
As noted, the sense of speed in the game is nothing like the modern arcade racers, especially when you start to drift through the long curves and corners. You will feel as though the car sticks to the track—and at the same time, it skids away. The game is even more challenging because you have to balance turning the car left and right while using the gas pedal to keep the car from hitting a wall or slowing down.
This racing game offers three modes that you can play in. You can play the arcade mode, where you need to complete courses against AI racers. The goal in this mode is to be on top. You cannot play the next course unless you got into the top three. There is also the time attack mode, wherein you need to complete a course in a given time goal, and a practice mode, which you can play to get the hang of the game.
Rule the track
If you love playing arcade racers, then Victory Heat Rally is a must-try. The game brings you a nostalgic experience of playing with your childhood copy of Sonic, with its retro visuals and soundtrack. It also comes with intense gameplay that mainstream driving simulators lack. It could use a few improvements, especially in the controls but overall, it is a fine choice for those who want to play old-school racers.
