Mobile Twitter on the big screen
The official iOS Twitter app just got an iPad upgrade, expanding the iPhone version with much richer media and designed for the big screen.
You don’t need a Twitter account to use this, as it comes ready loaded with a big range of categories, that allows you to see what’s being talked about and shared without taking part. If you do have an account, it allows you to do all the usual stuff, so you can post tweets, shorten links, retweet and reply to other users and more.
Where Twitter for iPad differs is its presentation. As you use the app, panels slide to reveal information, images, stories and videos. This all happens on a single screen and it looks great. Click a link, and it will open in a panel which you can slide in and out of view as you want. Video can be viewed within web pages, allowing you to enjoy it which continuing to browse your Twitter feed.
There are also new gesture controls, such as un-pinching a tweet to reveal user info. This needs to be learned, but soon becomes second nature, and a really neat way to use Twitter. Overall, Twitter for iPad is a huge improvement over the iPhone version, and actually looks better than the web app too.
The Twitter iPad app is powerful, great looking and really user friendly. It may just be the best Twitter experience so far.
