A horror-inspired Twitch tool for live streams

TwitchJa is a horror game centering around the first-person use of an Ouija board. It doesn’t have a structured narrative. This is because it is a tool to be used to interact with your Twitch followers and the ghostly realm.

The concept for this game is closest to Inscryption, though without the story and twists. The game is made for Twitch live streams, and it doesn’t have much use outside a live audience setting. Your viewers are able to communicate through the board and have you figure out what they are saying.

Try to spell the shadow words

The ghost in this interactive role-playing game will spell out things in shadow on the board, and you have to move the cursor (the Ouija marker) over the correct letters. Get the letters correct, and it shows you the words that have been written, sometimes written by your live audience viewers.

Good production values

The Twitch streamer still needs a lot of charisma to draw any value out of the game. Yet, the graphics and even the music are far better than what you may expect from an underfunded solo developer. Many different shadow comments appear, and there is no way to know what they say until you select the letters and have the word read out.

Pretty original game concept

This spooky game has elements you may have seen in other games but offers an idea so original that it is surprising nobody has thought of it before. The immersive and oddly realistic premise makes the lack of an overall narrative all the more frustrating.

The game needs much more

Considering the original premise and clever execution, it is a massive shame there isn’t more to this game. It tells a story by inference from the answers of the ghost, but it could have had many scary or unsettling facets and functions. This indie game is crying out for a big-budget sequel.
