Indie horror game

The Snow of Basidia is an adventure game created by Modus Interactive, the brains behind Groaning Steel and Iketsuki. It is an N64-style horror game, which features an idyllic Hyrule-esque fantasy land. In this indie game, you will play an ordinary man enjoying his first snowfall together with the village people. However, this natural activity is nothing but festive. There is something behind this phenomenon that you need to investigate.

The secret of the snow

The Snow of Basidia features a peaceful Ocarina of Time-like 3D fantasy land experiencing its first snowfall. You will play as one of the village people who live in the mountain. However, as mentioned, the snow is not what it seemed. Therefore, you will need to explore and chat with the townsfolk. You will also travel into the tunnel system to find out more about the snow and the mystery behind it.

The controls of the game are simple. Pressing the WASD keys will allow you to move, while mouse clicks let you get a closer look at your surroundings. The LMB, on the other hand, lets you interact with the people. As noted, The Snow of Basidia is an N64-style game, so you can expect the texture filtering that the style is known for. The game will also showcase a creepy Zelda outtake that is nostalgic.

The Snow of Basidia is a short video game, taking only around 15 minutes to play through. However, while it has a short runtime, it is beautifully crafted. There are lots of clues that foreshadow what happened, so paying attention to every detail as you play is recommended. However, the horror elements will only set in the second half of the game. The first half of the game will only be about exploring the mountains.

Short but unforgettable

All in all, The Snow of Basidia is a highly recommended game if you are into old-school horror games. The game boasts well-crafted visuals and music that is reminiscent of the N64 games of old. Its storyline is also quite unique and gives you a fresh experience. The game is short, but the story is rich with potential for a full horror game.
