Free texting and calling app
TextNow is an app that allows users to make calls and send texts for free. It works as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which means that it piggybacks on other cellular providers to offer you phone service. With this, you can communicate with anyone using WiFI or an internet connection. You can use the service without a WIFi, but you need to subscribe to their plan.
What is TextNow?
TextNow is pretty much like other instant messaging apps available in the market today. The app’s features include making and receiving voice calls, sending emojis and stickers, sending pictures, and floating chat. However, there are also some advanced functions, such as video messaging, voicemail transcriptions, and conference calling. The app also lets you synchronize your messages across your devices so you can access them anywhere, provided that you have the app installed.
The app will ask for access to several of your device’s features, including making in-app purchases, your contacts, and your camera. The download will only start once you click accept. Upon installation, you need to provide either a Google account or get a free phone number. After that, you need to provide your area code to get a new number that you can use to call or send a message.
TextNow comes with a straightforward interface. There is one main screen that holds all your conversations, and you only need to tap the pencil icon to compose texts. Clicking the keypad icon, on the other hand, will allow you to make calls. With the app, you can call and text within the United States and Canada for free. International communication rates start at $.10 per minute, but you can earn credits by viewing ads and completing offers. Be warned, however, that the app is prone to receive calls from random numbers, so security is an issue. The quality of calls is also quite sub-par as it sometimes fails to answer calls.
Communicate for free
TextNow is an alternative if you wish to make calls and send texts without subscribing to expensive phone plans. The app offers a bunch of features to make communication seamless. However, the app seems to work well with text messaging only. The call quality is a little bit questionable, so if you wish to get free calling, you may want to look for a better option.
