Open-world racing simulation
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is an open-world racing simulator that takes place on a recreated Hong Kong Island. The game offers both single and multiplayer game modes. Customization options allow players to alter their own in-game avatars and vehicles, resulting in an experience that offers plenty of freedom.
This is a follow-up game to Test Drive Unlimited and Test Drive Unlimited 2. The open-world nature has drawn comparisons with other rival racing sims, including Forza Horizon 5 and The Crew MotorFest.
Solar Crown competition
Players can freely navigate the in-game world, which consists of a recreation of Hong Kong Island. Then, they can compete in various racing events that make up the Solar Crown competition. Emphasis is placed on the character’s growing social status, and new cars are gradually unlocked through a robust progression system.
The Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown car list includes vehicles from leading manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Apollo, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Dodge, Lamborghini, and Bentley.
Hong Kong Island backdrop
So, how big is the Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown map? In total, the in-game Hong Kong Island is around 30 square miles, which is smaller than the maps in previous Test Drive Unlimited games. However, the detail on offer is far greater than in previous titles, and the setting itself is both engaging and diverse.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s open-world approach will naturally attract comparisons with Forza Horizon 5. While Forza Horizon 5 takes place in a fictional recreation of Mexico, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is set on a 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong Island. Test Drive also takes more of a simulation-based approach.
Life of a race car driver
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown excels as an open-world racing game because it provides a meaningful progression system, an interesting setting, and the sense of glamour associated with the life of a race car driver.
