Experience the New York Marathon
TCS New York City Marathon is a sports application developed for fans and participants of the New York City Marathon. With this, users can easily participate both in person and virtually. The app is free to use and allows you to track runners on the racecourse.
More than tracking, TCS New York City Marathon also allows runners, spectators, and fans to explore the course map in augmented reality through the Marathon City: 3D maps. This feature showcases points of interest around the racecourse in an interactive map. However, the app is prone to crashing, and the tracking function often fails.
What can the app do?
TCS New York City Marathon is the official companion app for the annual New York Marathon. The 2021 version offers a hybrid platform enabling users to participate in the race both in-person and virtually. Moreover, it also allows you to share your experiences with spectators and fans. The app displays all runners’ elapsed time and pace. Furthermore, runners can share their GPS location with two spectators.
The app also offers an interactive map of the racecourse called Marathon City: 3D Map. Even better, you can explore them in augmented reality. Here, you can visit points of interest along the course, including the Start Village in Staten Island. You can even experience elevation changes along the racecourse. The feature also allows you to see the race day starting times for various groups.
Fans can also show their support through Cheer Cards as it allows them to share messages on social media. Virtual runners, meanwhile, can access a digital certificate and a selfie filter with an AR medal once they complete the race. The app even promises to allow virtual runners to restart their race as many times as they want. However, it often does not work, resulting in losing your race data.
Should you download it?
Whether you are a marathoner or a fan of the New York City Marathon, TCS New York City Marathon is a good app to download. With it, you can experience the race, even if you are not in New York. Moreover, it lets you explore the course map before the race. However, despite being the latest version, the app is still prone to crashing and has tons of issues.
