A free Android app to alter a device’s functionality
Switch Access is a free utility app for Android devices that allows users to interact with their devices in different ways. The default functionality of most Android phones and tablets is to use finger gestures on the touchscreen, such as swiping. With this Google app, you can use physical switches or the device’s camera to interact with software instead.
For example, if you have limited dexterity from a hand injury, you might use Switch Access to open apps by clicking on your device’s switch rather than the app’s shortcut logo. Equally, you can set your device up to react to facial expressions, such as opening your mouth to select something or smiling in order to shut something down.
How to enable Switch Access
To control your device by pressing physical switches rather than its touchscreen, simply use the app’s slider control and set ‘Use Switch Access.’ The app also allows you to set up a Switch Access shortcut so that you can access it with ease. The other way to enable it is to head to settings, then accessibility, and Switch Access.
How does Switch Access function?
When Switch Access takes control of your camera, it will react to facial expressions, replacing the usual gestural controls of touchscreens by interpreting the information it receives from your face. Along with camera switches, you can set it up to work with Bluetooth or USB switches since it also supports these external switches.
Control your device your way
Like Android Accessibility Suite, Switch Access is a free utility tool. It allows users to alter standard control settings. Try downloading Hidden Android Settings if you want to assess all the changes you’ve made to the default settings.
