Simple and lightweight app launcher
Suma Launcher is a free personalization application for mobile coming from a developer by the name of Satsuma. It is a third-party home screen and app launcher alternative that can be used on Android devices. It offers various customization options and has support for both smartphone and tablet screens and layouts.
Compared to other popular options in the market like Nova Launcher or Lawnchair Launcher, Suma Launcher has fewer features and options available to configure. In return, it focuses on being fast and lightweight to use as few system resources as possible so it can run on even lower-end devices.
Speed and simplicity
The default launcher that comes with the Android has come a long way, both in terms of design and usability. It’s much more stable and quick than it used to be but still lacks the customization options that third-party alternatives offer. For those still looking to have a near-stock experience with some nice extras, Suma Launcher is one of the options available for consideration.
This app follows the design guidelines set by Android 8.0 a.k.a OREO, with a vertical app drawer and a universal Smart Search, and the option to hide apps for better organization. For added customization, you can apply custom icon packs and configure settings like icon grids, text size and color, and others. These are small yet appreciable aspects to let you personalize the experience to your liking.
You can also customize the app dock on your home screen in various ways, including changing the dock style, adding scrollable pages, and the like. Compared to its contemporaries, though, it still lacks many advanced features that power users look for. Also, it hasn’t been updated in some time, so while you can use it as is, don’t expect new features to come anytime soon.
Good but limited
All in all, if you’re a fan of the stock Android launcher but find yourself wanting some extra features, check out Suma Launcher. It offers a fast and clean experience, with just enough additions for most users. If you like to tinker and have more control, there are better options. If you’re good with what it has, though, it’s worth trying out for yourself.
