A strangely funny point and click adventure
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People is a point and click adventure, putting a modern spin on the venerable genre that has given us such classics as Broken Sword, Monkey Island and Sam and Max. This game is based on characters from the Homestar Runner web cartoons. If you enjoy the humor found there, you’ll no doubt enjoy the game.
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People’s graphical style is simple, bold and memorable. Your character, Strong Bad, moves around smoothly, in a pseudo 3D world. Your surroundings are sometimes a little too bare, which is odd for a genre usually rich in lovingly crafted backgrounds. However, this follows on from the minimal style of the original cartoons. Your task is to organize a battle of the bands competition, so you can raise money to fix your ‘Fun Machine’ games console. You do this by wandering around, talking to people, searching the world around you and solving puzzles.
The off-beat humor in Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People takes a while to get used to if you don’t know the original cartoons, but the game is sure to provide a few laughs. The presentation is excellent. You feel you’re directing an interactive cartoon more than playing a game – the puzzles are not particularly taxing, really just providing a way to drive the story along.
For fans of point-and-click adventure gaming, Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People is as good as it gets at the moment, although as it’s primarily a comedy adventure, you have to get the humor to like the game. This demo provides a good introduction to the world of Strong Bad, and could easily convince you you purchase the full episode.
A bright, fun and strange point and click adventure that will keep you entertained for its relatively short time span.
