Tough old-school arcade survival game
Squid And Let Die is an arcade game of survival – Your task is to collect dots, while avoiding fire from the sentry bots that patrol the perimeter.
By the author of Squid Yes, Not So Octopus (SYNSO), Squid And Let Die continues the theme of accessible gameplay with a high level of difficulty. This version (1.0) is apparently missing some accessibility features which will be added later, and that can only be a good thing! This is a punishing game.
Using the cursor keys alone, you must roam the grid of each level, and pick up all the dots. The sentries stop when they ‘see’ you, and will fire from there, allowing you to control somewhat where they go, and where they shoot. However, they will be firing at you from four directions, which is a lot to keep your eyes on! You only have one life, and have to start again every time you die – which will probably be often! Hopefully this cruelty will be fixed in a later update!
The graphics are basic, but with the retro-neon glow that was popularized by Geometry Wars. While the screen can get quite busy at times, the graphics are pretty clear, and the chunky sound effects are a great help, as well as sounding really cool.
Squid And Let Die is a very difficult arcade game, but it’s a good idea, and great for anyone who’s looking for a challenge!
