Relentless Roguelike Card Battle
Slay the Spire is a strategy game created by Mega Crit Games. The strategy game combines card game mechanics with roguelike elements. Players traverse in branching paths, fight different kinds of enemies and progress longer until their character dies.
Combining Two Strategy Genres
Slay the Spire takes place in a sinister infrastructure called the Spire. It hosts powerful relics while inhabited by bizarre creatures. Players select a character with individually unique deck. There are three playable classes in the game: Ironclad, Silent, and Defect. Each class has a different set of cards, passive skills, and relics. The Ironclad has balanced cards of physical offense, defensive stances, infernal powers, and healing relic. The Silent uses daggers, poison, blocking, maneuvers and extra card draw relic. The Defect uses ancient technology, elemental spells, unique orb mechanics and an orb channeling relic. The default character deck can be enhanced by collecting cards from battles. The roguelike element meanwhile is the exploration. Every new session is a new Spire to challenge. Progressing inside the Spire involves random battles against enemies, collecting mysterious relics, decision making similar to old Choose Your Adventure games, and eventually either facing the Corrupt Heart at the last chapter or an uneventful game over. Some relics might also endanger the character instead of benefiting from them. There are only 4 acts to progress but the roguelike system makes sure that nothing is repeated. Players might actually encounter new enemies, different choices or even acquire rare relics. The game comes with Daily Climb for comparing with other players on how far have they reached. Its Custom mode meanwhile lets users tweak some modifiers to try out crazy rules.
A Memorable Roguelike Game
Slay the Spire is an additional entry to the roguelike genre. It adds deck building mechanics to encourage tactics and customization. The true challenge is reaching the end while enduring random challenges. A simple mistake can end the journey inside the Spire.
