It’s been nearly 10 years since the last time that Shepard Fairey worked on a solo exhibition. In the years since, he has primarily worked on large-scale, collaborative projects with other artists. His most recent solo exhibition, DAMAGED, was the result of a four-year collaboration with the photographer Alex Karpov.
DAMAGED is a virtual reality experience that transforms the HOPE image from President Obama’s campaign into a dialogue. Fairey created this new work in response to the current political climate. He believes that art can be a form of political commentary and he wanted to create a work that was an expression of Fairey’s idea that art is a form of self-expression.
