Sesame Street: Incarceration – Helping Children Deal with Parental Incarceration
Sesame Street: Incarceration is an Android app that provides parents and caregivers with tools to help children aged 3-8 cope with the many transitions related to a parent’s incarceration. This app is part of Sesame Street’s Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration initiative. The app features Tip Books providing age-appropriate language to talk honestly with children as well as strategies to help them cope with a parent’s incarceration. The app also includes videos featuring real families and Sesame Street Muppets, an interactive storybook, and photo activity for caregivers to use with children. Additionally, the app provides suggestions for additional support and educational resources. We recommend that parents and caregivers use the tools and watch the videos before sharing them with their children so that they can choose what is most relevant and helpful for their family.
