Cyber cat-care

I’ll admit that I’m a cat lover, but even I was unprepared for the level of detail about your pet that the developer of SafeCat has planned for. If you breed cats or own a cattery, taking such meticulous records is a necessity. If you just own cats on a casual basis, it’s probably not, but some super-dedicated owners might want to anyway.

Before we go any further, there’s one important point to note about SafeCat. The trial version does not let you modify the program at all, being purely for demonstration purposes. Now that that’s out of the way, we can take a closer look. The SafeCat interface is not bad, per se, but uncomfortable to use. The various SafeCat features are accessed via tabs in the top of the window, and details can be entered and changed (in the paid version) by clicking on the fields and typing.

There is no aspect of your unsuspecting cat that is not covered by SafeCat. Its medical history, breeding information, behavioral traits and even family tree are all included. There’s even a template for you to fill in and hang in your home in case of natural disaster, so the emergency personnel will know what animals to look for when they arrive. Let’s just hope they focus on you first, eh?

SafeCat borders on obsessive, but nobody can accuse it of lacking detail.
