Manage your cookies in Safari

Cookies leave vital traces behind of your internet surfing habits. Usually, they can be a very useful way of saving time form filling in when you revisit pages, loading pages quicker etc but some people are concerned by the privacy issues they raise.

Safari has no way for you to manage cookies other than to delete them and so Safari Cookies attempts to make life a bit easier by allowing you to ban, block and prevent cookies from certain websites downloading onto your hard drive. You can quickly build-up a blacklist of sites that you like to visit but don’t necessarily want to track you with cookies.

However, if you’re using Snow Leopard, you’ll need to install SIMBL to use Safari Cookies. Note that all of Safari Cookies preferences are stored in Safari’s preference file which you will find at ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist (with the prefix “SC”). If you wish to uninstall the preference pane, an unisntaller is provided with the download file.

Safari Cookies gives you much greater control over who can track you while you are surfing in Safari.
