An RTS game designed in retro fashion
Rusted Warfare is a premium strategy game for PC developed by Corroding Games. It’s an RTS title that takes inspiration from the classics for its design and gameplay. Players will have access to a multitude of weaponry based on modern-day tech as they complete battle objectives.
Similar to Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Rusted Warfare features a military theme to it. It boasts retro pixel art and graphics for its presentation, though, making for a charming gameplay experience. It also takes advantage of multi-threaded CPU processing to support up to 1000 units at a given time.
Simple as it is fun
Rusted Warfare is an RTS that’s easy to play and control even for beginners. Its main campaign starts out as usual, with limited visibility and scope. Explore the map to slowly uncover more of its area and terrain as you work toward completing your mission objectives. Experience your first enemy encounter, and this is where the action ramps up quickly as the game’s diverse combat begins.
The game has over 50 unique units at your disposal. Each contributes to fights in different ways and is upgradable. Send out teams that are best suited for specific scenarios and conditions as you zoom in and out of the map to issue orders. The game also boasts a multi-core engine that makes it possible to have battles with up to 1000 assets spread all over.
It also features a Sandbox Mode that allows you to create your own battle scenarios. You can even use them when you host a game in online multiplayer when you play co-op with friends or battle other players. One thing to criticize is that its simplicity is both an advantage and disadvantage. While fun and engaging, the gameplay might not be particularly deep or strategic for some.
Blast enemies one pixel at a time
Overall, you can think of Rusted Warfare as a simpler and more accessible version of classic RTS games like Command and Conquer or Supreme Commanded. It won’t provide you with deep and complex gameplay systems, but it does bring the fun, and lots of it. If you have some time to spare, this title is well worth checking out.
