Collect planet bits in this platforming game

RUBATO Demo is a free indie game developed by dconn. In this free-play game, you will take control of a frog named Rubato. Your goal is to collect planet bits while going through various trap-filled levels.

RUBATO Demo is inspired by platforming games like Super Mario Odyssey. As you collect the needed items, you can level up your health and unlock area boss. However, as the name suggests, this is a demo game. It only has one to two hours of gameplay and 28 planet bits to collect. Moreover, it is prone to crashing when you switch items.

What is RUBATO Demo?

RUBATO is a collect-a-thon game that stars a frog. In this game, the solar system exploded for some reason, and now it is up to you to collect the bits to fix it. To do so, you will explore various levels. Each one is filled with traps and enemies you will go through. For each planet bit, you collect, you will level your health up and unlock the area boss.

As the game has a frog for a protagonist, you can make use of its features to help you in your endeavor. You can jump high and use your tongue to move boxes, swing on grapple points, and grab projectiles. Eventually, you get access to a rocket launcher to blow up blocks and rocket jump. However, whenever you switch items after the missile launcher, the game crashes.

The game’s demo features expressive pixel art and animations, reminding you of retro games. It also has good audio to keep you entertained as you play. It even has seven non-playable characters. However, the game is still under development. Currently, it only has up to two hours of gameplay, only 28 planet bits to collect. Moreover, included in the gameplay is a very lengthy introduction. Fortunately, you can skip them.

Should you play it?

Overall, RUBATO Demo is a fun game to pick up, especially if you are a fan of collect-a-thon styled progression games. It has a familiar and simple premise made challenging by the obstacles in the levels. It also offers expressive visual effects and design. Although this is not complete yet, so the gameplay is short, and the app has a few issues.
