RottenSys is a next-generation ad-spamming malware that targets Android devices. It is one of the most aggressive and successful ad-spamming attacks ever seen. It was first discovered in late 2016 and is estimated to have generated $115,000 in advertising revenue in just 10 days.
The malware hides itself as a Wi-Fi service and looks like a regular Wi-Fi network. It connects to Wi-Fi networks without users’ knowledge and sends spam messages to the users of those networks. The messages are full of ads and malicious links that can be used to download additional malware. The users are also encouraged to download the malware and are given instructions on how to do so. If the users do not download the malware, the malware will continue to spam the network and may cause harm to the devices of the users.
How can I protect myself from RottenSys?
You should not download RottenSys unless you are sure that you are not infected. If you have a firm and solid wireless network, you should not use RottenSys. If you are not sure if your network is secure, you should not use RottenSys.
