Large-Scale War on Mobile Devices
ROME: Total War retains most of the general gameplay mechanics of the original PC version. Players fight against rival empires in order to dominate the ancient world. The combat is still done in real-time, at the same time, the turn-based campaigns are very immersive as it showcases 19 unique factions available. Players can choose the Roman faction (The House of Julii, Scipii or Brutii), the Carthaginians, the Egyptians, the Britons, the Gauls, the Germans, the Macedonians, the Kingdom of Pontus and the Seleucids. Playing as any of the Roman faction involves unifying or defying the rival houses while setting up on conquering the world. Playing as non-Roman factions simply mean world domination. The campaigns are situated in historical places of the Near East, Europe, and North Africa. Compared to the original strategy game, this mobile port utilizes the touch screen feature which is very convenient compared to navigation via mouse cursor. It also includes range marker for estimating trajectory for ranged units. Players can expect massive battles as they can see very large skirmishes in the battlefield. There will be thousands of troops fighting for the player’s side against the opposing army. Some of the available units to play are legionnaires, spearmen, archers, cavalry, chariots and even the exotic war elephants. Each unit is historically depicted for accuracy. This strategy game highlights Total War’s features: maintaining a faction’s power and status on the Campaign Map. Players have to balance their empire’s own economy, civilization and religion. They have to uphold their empire while asserting dominance and keeping the generals perform their best.
