A mysterious island to explore
Risen falls into a very traditional gaming genre (role-playing) but starts off in a quite unusual setting: a deserted island.
Playing as the main characters of this adventure, you’re stranded on this island after having been shipwrecked in the middle of a terrible storm. You’re confused, you’re lost and you don’t remember anything. Like you would do in real life, the only way to escape this situation is to explore your surroundings and use whatever you find to survive.
In this sense, Risen is like a mix between an RPG game and a point-and-click adventure; you not only need to explore the area and find objects that can be helpful for you, but also make your character gain experience, learn new skills and generally progress through the game. This short demo doesn’t give you the chance to fully test it though.
Controls in Risen are the usual keyboard-mouse combination. Graphics and sound effects are far from outstanding, but manage to provide a good adventure atmosphere. If you’re tired of typical medieval RPGs, Risen could be a good option. Other than that, it doesn’t really feature anything out of the usual.
Risen is an original RPG set in a deserted island, with elements from traditional point-and-click adventures.
