Racing game with a rock music twist
Rhythm Racer 2 is a high octane spaceship racing game where the aim is to make music as you whiz around the track.
The gameplay in Rhythm Racer 2 is kind of a cross between F-Zero and Guitar Hero. The aim of the game is to hit the colored beats that appear in time with the music. Steering is done simply by tilting the iPhone left and right.
Although there is little variation between the tracks, Rhythm Racer 2 is made more interesting by the inclusion of jumps, hoops, and the ability to rack up combos. There are three difficulty levels, of which the first two are pretty easy to master, while the third can be insanely tough. You can adjust the steering sensitivity, which can also help to make the game easier or more difficult.
Thrilling graphics
Visually, Rhythm Racer 2 is a real treat. The futuristic backdrops are breathtaking, and the impression of speed you get from the slick animation is dizzying at times.
And the music? Well, the artists whose tracks are featured in Rhythm Racer 2 aren’t exactly household names, but the songs certainly rock, and suit the intensity of the game. The only problem is that there are just four tracks included in Rhythm Racer 2, which seems a bit tight.
Once you get bored of these songs, you can pay to download more, including material from The Prodigy, Boston, The Crystal Method, and Edgar Winter. The selection of tracks in the Rhythm Racer 2 download store is a little paltry at the moment. However, the developer promises new additions very soon, including stuff from The All American Rejects, The Kaiser Chiefs, and The Airborne Toxic Event.
Rhythm Racer 2 looks and sounds great, and it’s fun to play. However, it needs more variety in the selection of music and the tracks included in the game.
