WLAN driver for Windows
Realtek Wireless Driver is a free-to-use utility. This wi-fi driver sets up your device and allows it to seamlessly connect to wireless networks. However, this has system requirements intended for Windows 8.1 with x32 OS architecture. It comes in a small file size and is easy to install, although it also has certain issues with some unsupported hardware.
For newly formatted setups, Realtek Wireless Driver is a must-have. Similarly, you can also check out Intel Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 10 or Realtek Wireless Driver for Windows 10 for more wireless connectivity options.
Set up your wi-fi connectivity
Wireless and network drivers refer to pieces of software that “instruct” your system to communicate with wireless networks. In this case, Realtek Wireless Driver works for wireless local area networks or WLAN, which is a requirement for wi-fi connectivity. Although there are ready-to-use setups, most units built from scratch would need the drivers installed one-by-one. There are drivers for graphics, sounds, and this one for WLAN connectivity.
The largest limitation of this particular driver is that it was expressly developed for a particular operating system. Even then, it only works for the x32 architecture. This means that installing it for 64-bit of the same OS, or an entirely different system altogether, could lead to unexpected bugs, issues, and vulnerabilities for your system. Similarly, it could lead to you being unable to connect to the wi-fi.
On the plus side, it comes in a particularly small file size of about 38 MB. It is also easy and quick to install, although it doesn’t come with a built-in system check to let you know if it’s not compatible with your system. Also, it requires hardware for a network connection — you must have a wi-fi dongle or a built-in wi-fi adapter.
A rather limited driver
Provided you meet the rather narrow list of supported devices, Realtek Wireless Driver is a great driver to set you up for WLAN connectivity. It is convenient and easy to install. However, with its capabilities and range, it comes across as a barebones driver that can’t even provide you with a diagnostic on compatibility. You’ll have to do your own research and see if this driver works for you.
