An “evil” card game

OverlordZ is a free strategy card game where you play with armies of vampires, demons, werewolves, and zombies against bot players. The indie developer, Imagineed, reinterpreted the card game, President, and created a witty horror version with fun animations and cute graphics, although with exactly the same mechanics and gameplay.

All you have to do is strategize on how you could manage your legions to overcome your opponent’s army, all while making sure that you’re the first player to clear all of your cards— or in the game’s case, tombstones. The winner of the match shall then be called Overlord

A witty version of President

If you don’t know the mechanics of the game President, OverlordZ is a fun way to learn it. The game starts by letting you choose to play in a match with four, five, or six characters in a deck of 52 tombstones. Each tombstone has its respective rank: five stars, four stars, three stars, two stars, one star, then 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.

Those ranks will tell you which card is higher than the other. The last player to clear all of their tombstones in the first round is called the Servant, and starts the next round by leading any single tombstone or set of tombstones in the same rank. After that, the next player must then beat the previous player’s rank while dealing with the same number of tombstones.

The game ends when a player reaches 21 points, or when the tenth turn ends and the highest score wins. One of the best qualities of the game is that its graphics and animations are all fully hand-drawn, paired with original music. However, the game doesn’t support multiplayer mode, so you can only really play alone with the game bots. Hence, it can easily get boring over time.

Enjoyable but lonely

Overall, OverlordZ is a really enjoyable game that you can play when you have extra time to burn. Regardless of your knowledge level of the game President, the game’s tutorial is very easy and detailed, so you won’t have difficulty understanding the game. Unfortunately, it can get a bit lonely since it doesn’t allow you to play with other real-life players.
