Survive in the brutal new world
OUTRIDERS is a third-person co-op action role-playing shooter video game, wherein you have to keep moving and keep your wits about you to survive. Developed by People Can Fly and published by Square Enix, this frenetic RPG shooter title lets you play solo or with friends as you traverse a dark sci-fi universe. With that in mind, take note that this game contains mature content such as violence, gore, and strong language.
What kind of game is OUTRIDERS?
The story of OUTRIDERS revolves around powerful and deadly agents cursed with strange otherworldly powers. An expedition team of Earth’s surviving space colony gets caught up in a massive alien energy storm known as “The Anomaly” while trying to explore the alien planet Enoch and investigating the source of a mysterious signal. The superpowers they gained gave them an edge in combat against vicious alien creatures, but also endangers their humanity as they fight to stay alive.
The game allows you to create and customize your very own Outrider by choosing their gender and appearance. Eventually, you can choose a class for them from four unique options: Technomancer, Pyromancer, Trickster, and Devastator. All four differ in playstyle and abilities, so you’ll need to build up strategies on how to best utilize your skillset to survive on the battlefield. From weapons and gear to the environment itself, anything is fair game.
There are both single-player and multiplayer modes for up to three players available—letting you do either a duo or trio run to make the main campaign much easier. A unique feature here is that your teammates can easily drop in or drop out of your team. Plus, the game offers full cross-play support. The combat is fast-paced and actually lets you heal by inflicting damage. Story-wise, however, it can feel a bit too over-the-top.
Highly engaging
All in all, OUTRIDERS isn’t the first third-person shooter game out there but it’s one that leaves a lasting impression on players with its weighty shooter gameplay. From its frenetic RPG combat to the myriad of ways your character can grow, it’s a fun game that both new and old shooter game fans will at least find interesting. The free demo itself lets you try out all four classes after completing the prologue.
