A Japanese historical simulation and empire management game
NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Souzou SengokuRisshiden is set in ancient Japan. You have to build your empire and lead your troops to victory. The game looks very similar to the Total War games because there is a map campaign and real time battles. This game has a far bigger focus on the campaign map side of things than the Total War games. It is an empire building game similar to Mount
Blade Warband, except there is big focus on empire development with far less fighting action.
The biggest difference between NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Souzou SengokuRisshiden and the Total War games is that there is far more to do on the campaign map. Your job is not all about violently expanding your empire, you also have to grow your empire with politics and clever developments. Experienced players are able to develop their empire to the point where they can sit back and let the game play itself. A fun new function has been entered into this franchise where you may start as a retainer and work your way up to Daimyo. The new function is called “Officer Play” and it adds yet another facet to the many ways you may play this game. Replay the game and win using different styles of play, from monstrous conqueror to political powerhouse. The graphics are above reproach during the battles, but the campaign map is a little uninspired.
It will scratch a few itches that other games will not
If you are tired of the Total War games, then NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Souzou SengokuRisshiden may appeal to you because of the different playing styles you may try. If you are looking for a game to offset the campaign-heavy side of this game, then Mount And Blade Warband should help scratch that itch. If you can live without the fighting action that is seen in games like Mount and Blade, then Nobunga will be all you ever need.
