NICESSM – A Climate Change Knowledge Network App for Indian Farmers
NICESSM is a niche Android application developed for the Climate Change Knowledge Network in India Agriculture (NICE Bizz) project. It is jointly implemented by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The app facilitates gathering, validating, and disseminating knowledge for improving farmers’ resilience towards the impacts of climate change.
NICESSM works only in combination with a specific web solution developed for this project and is only accessible for registered users. Relevant information is collected in a decentralized process through this app and the backend system. The app enables modular architecture, structured input, workflow, search, and mobile-based creation of farmer profiles, recording farmers’ feedback and questions on agrometeorology, and accessing relevant knowledge products in an online and offline mode. Generated knowledge products range from custom-tailored SMS, voice SMS, videos, fact sheets, and posters. The system is completely open-source based and can be accessed through a web and an Android-based mobile application.
Overall, NICESSM is a valuable tool for Indian farmers to adapt to climate change and improve their resilience towards its impacts.
