NFL Sunday Ticket is an app from DIRECTV, free with a subscription to DIRECTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket roster of sports-watching options. It allows you to watch regular season NFL games every Sunday, but that’s not all: it provides access to each Sunday’s touchdowns at your fingertips, provides DIRECTV’S FANTASY ZONE channel for getting ahead in fantasy football, and even access to your NFL.com fantasy league, all from one app.
The rankings roll in
The app provides buttery-smooth video playback on all but the weakest of modern American data connections (e.g., 3G). It also provides the functionality it advertises, and does it without much incident. That is, though, assuming you can get it to work: it requires a DIRECTV login, which is simple enough, but even after that the app can be somewhat of a chore to navigate, and it runs slowly on older devices. As with many other DIRECTV or cable streaming apps, once you’re watching video, there are no problems, but the app itself does have some weaknesses.
Touchdown
Overall, if you can stomach dealing with intermittent problems with the app – hardly worse than resetting your box to get cable to work – and you enjoy watching NFL games on Sunday, NFL Sunday Ticket is a worthwhile app to try, and probably to use, too.
