Know when you’re going, where, and how, instantly

My Trips is an app by Ace Widgets. It works together with TripIt.com, an online travel service, to track your trips from place to place: flight itineraries, delays, and other useful information. It can be used to track multiple trips, and to retrieve detailed flight information, like airline and passenger information or confirmation numbers.

Your entire trip at a glance

My Trips provides basic flight information, but it also provides a neat package in which to find it. The ultimate utility of the app is that it makes information about your next trip, or trips, easy to access: it keeps just about every form of information a business (or heavy domestic) traveler might need. Beyond departure and arrival times, locations, and confirmation numbers, you’ll also find information on car rentals, hotels and other aspects of travel.

A TripIt Pro account is optional to use the app, but it adds the service’s real-time flight status, gate and baggage claim information. For users who are concerned about data or wi-fi connectivity, it can also save the information it provides to your device for offline browsing (although naturally the TripIt Pro features will not function in this setting).

Made for Metropolitan business

From the moment you start the app, you’ll find yourself, if not impressed, then at the very least pleased with how it looks. Its color choices, the font used, and the way the interface is laid out should all match the rest of your device, and do so with aplomb. The app makes great use of images and other visual media not just to improve its form, but to provide function as well: the areas you’ll most commonly be tapping are made wider with the full-sized images accompanying them, while other sections get smaller images or plain text to allow you to select them.

On the pure usability side, My Trips has no serious problems. It is fast, responsive and does not hide anything from the user behind unnecessary taps or long loading screens. The user interface settings it provides make it more accessible if necessary. The only problem is that, if running on Windows 10 Phone, the Live tile does not work. This at least is a problem, given how useful the Live tile can be.

On the road again

With a name as simple as My Trips, this app makes no bones about what it does, nor about the fact it’s attempting to blend in with every other aspect of your mobile device. In this, it succeeds admirably. The app’s small problems do not make it any less useful. If you have a TripIt Pro membership, it is potentially valuable enough to be a must-buy. If you do not run Windows 10 Phone, it is even better.
