Videoconferencing and instant messaging for businesses

Lync for Windows 8 is a version of Microsoft’s communication software Lync 2013 that’s designed for touch-screen devices including tablets and hybrid PCs. The app gives you everything you need to effectively communicate with your Lync contacts when you’re not in the office.

Communicate with your Lync contacts on Windows 8

Lync for Windows 8 gives you access to the same features as its desktop counterpart. By logging into your account, you can access your contact list and start an audio or video call with a person or a group, arrange a meeting, or simply send an instant message

Presentation tools (desktop sharing, PowerPoint, and whiteboard, to name a few), file sharing options, and links to OneNote are also integrated, although their functionality depends on your Lync server and your account settings.

With Lync for Windows 8, you can also access your chat history, voicemail, or check your calendar for any scheduled meetings. The app did, however, encounter a few problems when I tried to sync the chat history.

A simplified touch-screen experience

For the version made for Windows 8, Lync has been completely redesigned and optimized for touchscreen. The app is as simple as it gets, incorporating large buttons to navigate easily with your fingers.

Unfortunately, there are very few options available. All you can do is merely synchronize the app with your Lync account; you can’t add new contacts, rearrange your list of contacts, or create new contact groups.

Take Lync with you everywhere

Lync for Windows 8 is an excellent addition to the desktop version of the app. It allows you to access all the features of Lync 2013, along with your contacts, while you’re on the go, in an interface that’s adapted for tablets.
