Collect and read data with ease
Logger Pro is a general-purpose data-collection and analysis software that allows you to easily collate data and gauge readings. Developed by Vernier Software & Technology, this educational program is a convenient tool that supports various scientific sensors and equipment for academic use. It’s great for teaching science subjects—mostly with a focus on chemistry—for the middle school, high school, and college levels. This software only has one premium plan but offers a 30-day demo version.
What is Logger Pro used for?
Logger Pro is a highly-educational PC software that is designed for data readings. It’s compatible with different sensors that you can connect to your system and can process the information they’ve collected and measured to display on your desktop. This data analysis program supports over 80 Vernier sensors for real-time graphing and analysis and can collect data from a variety of sources such as LabQuest 2 and LabPro. Thus, you can perform different types of statistical analysis.
The basic features include auto-ID sensors for easy setup, different data-collection modes, manual data entry, and the ability to import and export findings using Vernier interfaces. Meanwhile, the advanced features include letting you screen-capture the process for visual records of your experiments gathering data to analyze them frame-by-frame and draw predictions on graphs. Plus, it has Ocean Optics spectrometer and GPS support. It’s quite easy to get in-depth with the graphs and model data presets available in the program, thanks to its wide compatibility.
Another strong point of this software is that it’s student-friendly—offering 12 built-in self-help tutorials. Additionally, it includes over 1,000 experiment files supported by its library of lab books. Students can also write their lab reports on the software or export the data to MS Word and Excel, and even develop their own experiment files. If you need to, you can share data with handheld devices, as well—but for using the program itself, you have to switch back to a PC platform.
Is Logger Pro free?
Take note, however, that Logger Pro is strictly for educational purposes only. Its versatility with equipment and data presentation does make it one of the most recommended chemistry software around for teaching students, but it’s not meant for any industrial, medical, or commercial application. This program doesn’t offer a professional license either. However, it’s quite generous with its site license as it will allow an entire school or college department to use it—regardless of how many PCs there are.
Both students and teachers alike can even use it on their personal computers via their online accounts, as it can be procured either via a CD or downloading on the official website. If you’d like to test it out first, there’s a 30-day trial version available that offers all of the features from the start. Additionally, the updates are free for any version of the program. The only major downside to the application itself is that it has a bland and uninspiring interface design.
Learning can be easy
All in all, Logger Pro is a powerful tool for data collection and analysis that educators should try out. Despite the boring interface, all of the features you can test are highly versatile when it comes to sensor support—most especially when Vernier Software & Technology offers equipment optimized for this program. There’s no need to worry about subscription plans and how many users it can accommodate, either.
