A retro-style platform puzzler about a frog
Little Frog Game is a free puzzle platformer in which the player takes control of a frog. The frog must navigate the game’s levels while collecting flies and beetles and avoiding predators and other obstacles. The game is available under a “name your own pricing” (NYOB) model.
The side-scrolling style of gameplay is similar to that of games like Limbo. However, the art style is more reminiscent of games like Granny in Paradise. It is a relatively short game, consisting of three stages to complete.
Stay hydrated and avoid predators
The premise of Little Frog Game sees the player take control of a small frog that must traverse the gaming world by jumping from platform to platform. In addition to avoiding predators, the player must keep the frog hydrated by periodically landing in freshwater pools, with a hydration meter that depletes whenever the frog is out of water.
Catch bugs
While moving through the level, the player has to collect five beetles before they are allowed to advance to the next stage. If they successfully do that, they are rewarded with a bonus stage. There are also other collectibles, such as flies. To make collecting these easier, the frog can fling its tongue out to reach collectibles that are otherwise out of reach by jumping.
Varied gameplay
While the game is quite short, it does feature some varied gameplay elements. For example, the frog must periodically find freshwater pools to stay alive, but there are also saltwater areas that will harm the frog and must be avoided. Similarly, the player must collect some insects while avoiding other creatures.
A well-made game
Little Frog Game is short, but it is well-made and features a cohesive and colorful art style. The gameplay mechanics make the playthrough varied and short, while the bonus stages give the game some additional content.
