Learn Reading in French: A Free Education App for Children
Learn Reading in French is a free Android application developed by Afrikalan, an organization that aims to make educational software accessible in West Africa. The app is designed to help children practice reading through various exercises that are similar to those done in the first or second grade of school.
The app features an image bank that has been adapted to the cultural context of West Africa. It includes activities like associating a word with its image, finding the missing syllable of a word, putting the syllables or letters in order to form a word, and writing the word through dictation. The word sets are classified into 7 difficulty levels that follow the usual progression of teaching reading, starting with simple syllables like P, T, M, L, and R and gradually moving towards more complex syllables.
The app was created voluntarily as part of the Afrikalan Project and is distributed free of charge and in a non-commercial manner under the terms of the GNU-GPL license. The app is a great resource for children who want to practice reading in French and is a valuable contribution to the educational software available in West Africa.
