Gritty medieval RPG
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven role-playing game that will give you an immersive adventure in the Holy Roman Empire. In this game, you will play a son of a blacksmith thrust in the middle of a raging war. To avenge your parents, you will fight to help repel the invading forces. Kingdom Come: Deliverance offers a satisfying first-person action-RPG that accurately captures the medieval setting. This game breaks free from the stereotype of drab, brown, and sad medieval period games.
Historically accurate premise
One of the things that you players will appreciate about Kingdom Come: Deliverance is that it takes place in a real setting and with real characters. Unlike other medieval games, its characters, including Sir Hanush, Sir Divish, Sigismund of Hungary, and King Wenceslaus, are actual people. And all of them were alive in 1403.
Additionally, the map of the game is also a real place in Czechia, which you can visit. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is also one of the most accurate depictions of the medieval era in any modern media. Its massive open-world game map, which includes majestic castles and vast fields, are all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
Non-linear story
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a recreation of 15th century feudal Bohemia. However, while the game is strongly story-driven, players will not follow a linear story. How the story unfolds depends on your actions. The outcome of every mission depends entirely on you as you can solve quests in multiple ways. Of course, you will also have to face the consequences of your decisions.
Additionally, the game has a very dynamic world. Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you, just like in the real world. Even your relationship with non-playable characters are very realistic and greatly affects the turnout of your missions.
Challenging yet unforgiving combat
Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s combat system is unique. Unlike The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim—another medieval RPG—you cannot engage in a fight and expect to win in this game. The combat system is challenging and requires practice to master.
The game also did not make your character a massive powerhouse who can blow any opponent with a single swing of the sword. This prevents the game from deviating from its aim of sticking to reality. However, players will also find the combat to be unforgiving, as it is very easy to get beaten in a fight.
The combat mechanics also tends to be janky at times, especially when fighting multiple enemies. The lock-on system is not quite fluid enough, which can hinder your success in the fight. To make matters worse, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has irregular save points. Understandably, this feature prevents players from cheesing the save mechanic, but it still can be frustrating.
Play through the course of history
If you are looking for a game that accurately depicts the events of history, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is worth a try. The game is one of the most rewarding role-playing games that break the stereotype of period games. It is a mess of bugs at times and tends to break at most inconvenient moments, but overall, it is an excellent game that is worth your time and money.
