Remake of the surreal dating sim

John Doe+ is an indie game developed by Fox. This is a free visual novel-style simulation game that puts you in a creepy situation. Here, you will play a normal worker, who will have to interact with a creepy person named John Doe, that seems to be a stalker.

John Doe+ is a remake of the dating sim John Doe. It has the same premise and even includes the original four endings. However, in this iteration, you will have three additional endings for a total of seven. The visuals are also improved, although it made the entire game more unsettling.

What is John Doe+?

John Doe+ is a dating sim/visual novel. It features an atmospheric story about going to work and meeting someone. Although that someone is a bit creepy and acts like a stalker. In the game, the stalker-like character named John Doe approached you while at work. Like in any dating sim game, you will interact with one another. During the conversation, you will have to answer Yes or No questions.

As with other similar visual novel games, your answers will affect how the story will progress. As mentioned, there are seven endings in this story. However, unlike dating sims, it will not only end with your character dating or not dating John. There are also some storylines where John loses interest in you. Moreover, some endings are actually quite unsettling. Some even involve blood and gore.

More than the added endings, this improved version also boasts better visuals. Although, the new look highlights the unsettling premise of the story. Adding to the creepy atmosphere are the sound effects that will have you expect a jumpscare to appear out of nowhere. What makes the game more unique is the fact that you actually don’t see John Doe during your interaction.

Is the game good?

Overall, John Doe+ elevated the original game. Although it has the same premise, the game brings more replay value by having additional endings. It also has better visuals that, when coupled with the sound, make the entire experience more surreal. However, like the original, each session is short-lived. There are only a handful of questions before you get one of the endings offered.
