Choose Wisely In A Chinese-Inspired Fantasy Adventure
Jade Empire: Special Edition is a remake of a classic early-2000s RPG by the world famous studio BioWare, also responsible for such popular modern titles as Mass Effect and Dragon Age. In it, you play as a martial artist travelling across a land inspired by ancient China, fighting exciting battles, meeting friends and foes, and making decisions that shape the lives of those around you.
Think Carefully, In Combat or Out
The main theme of Jade Empire: Special Edition is choosing between the Open Palm and the Closed Fist, two Ways that represent most of the decisions you’ll be making: do you provide alms to a beggar, with Open Palm, or expect him to make his own way, with a Closed Fist? Do you see violence as a route to peace, or peace as something that you may need to protect with violence? Overall, the choices the game provides follow this formula and they are very simplistic, excepting one near the end.
A New Look at Life
But compared to RPGs of the time, Jade Empire was engrossing in this respect. Compared to many other mobile titles, Jade Empire: Special Edition is a cinematic, story-focused epic with a fantastic interface and video settings that allow it to run on almost any tablet, if you turn them down. If you’re looking for a desktop- or console-style RPG, this is one of your better options.
