The Indian Penal Code is the first Indian law that has been published. It was intended to be a complete and comprehensive law to establish the foundation of the new Indian government and regulate the relationship between the citizens and the government. The code was divided into twenty-three chapters, which have been arranged in a logical and coherent manner. The code is very comprehensive, and it has been the subject of many amendments.
There are two kinds of crimes: civil and criminal. A person can be convicted of a crime based on the nature of the crime, the date of the crime, and the jurisdiction of the court.
A person who commits an assault on another person is liable to be punished. The punishment depends on the severity of the assault and the injury sustained by the other person. In the case of an assault that causes death, the punishment is death.
