A unique twist on the classic snake game
Inverse Snake is a free puzzle game for PC made by indie developer CodeNoodles. It is a retro title that introduces a unique gameplay twist to the classic Snake. In it, players are the food, and they need to do what they can to survive for as long as possible.
Visually speaking, Inverse Snake stays faithful to the original’s design just like Snake Game or Snake vs Snake. Its main standout feature has to do more with its gameplay that changes the player’s perspective and how they approach it, making for a different and unique experience.
The predator becomes the prey
Snake is one of those universally recognized games that pretty much everyone knows about in one form or another. The classic title made a name for itself as the de facto pastime that people would play on their mobile devices back when smartphones weren’t a thing yet but have been remade and reinterpreted through the years. Speaking of modern interpretations, Inverse Snake might just be its most unique one yet.
This new take on the game looks like the original, with charming pixel graphics and a grid-style pattern on the background. The gameplay is where things get interesting as the roles are reversed. Instead of controlling the snake, you will be the food. There are multiple snakes and food at any given time, and you must avoid getting eaten as long as you can, with three lives available to you.
There are blinking boxes that serve as teleport pads of sorts that instantly move you to other random pads available on the grid for quick escapes. Do note, though, that the game is still in active development. As such, there are still some bugs that need to be addressed and fixed, as well as other additions and features in future updates—there’s more to come.
Fun and unique concept
There is no shortage of great Snakes games to try out today and Inverse Snake manages to be a real standout with its unique gameplay twist. It sticks to the familiar look and presentation of the original and that is by no means a bad thing—it has a timeless charm to it that will appeal to many. It’s a promising game that’s worth checking out.
