Cinematic puzzle-platformer game
Inmost is a premium adventure game developed by Hidden Layer Games. It is a puzzle-platformer title that tells of three characters with intertwining stories set in a labyrinthian world. Players will face many enemies and challenges as they follow these individuals with inner struggles to find hope and meaning.
Just like Hollow Knight or Little Nightmares II, Inmost is an atmospheric and narrative-driven game. Each of its characters features unique skills and playstyles that set them apart from one another and will be essential in overcoming the various obstacles and puzzles that they will encounter along the way.
Hauntingly beautiful world
Inmost is an atmospheric, narrative-driven puzzle-platformer set in a crumbling and barren world. In it, you will follow the stories of three characters, a knight, a child, and a wanderer, as they journey through an unforgiving landscape. What starts out as seemingly unrelated events slowly becomes a somber tale of intertwining thoughts and experiences between these three individuals, which you will witness and take part in.
Each of the game’s three protagonists brings something to the table gameplay-wise. The knight is adept in close-quarters melee combat, the child specializes in hook shots to get around, and the wanderer has a knack for setting up traps that you can lure enemies into. Each of their journeys will take you through an enemy-infested castle, an eerie old house, and various dungeons and underground passages, respectively.
What’s more, each of its locations features various hidden passages and various collectibles that will encourage you to really explore every part of the world. Now, you can play through the game in under five hours, which is short by today’s standards. What’s ironic, though, is that this runtime is the result of poor pacing with how it conveys its three stories and ties them together into a cohesive narrative.
Interconnectedness
All in all, Inmost’s strength lies not in its gameplay, but rather in its beautifully-crafted world and the stories of its three protagonists. While not without its faults, this puzzle platformer is worth giving a try for its deeply emotional and gripping narrative that will have your attention from start to finish. It’s a dark, poignant, and highly contemplative experience.
